Fourie bags top award

						RICHARDS Bay’s Francois Fourie, now at Westville Boys High School, received the 2016 Zululand Supersport Let’s Play Super Star award, for his indoor cricket achievements.
This at the Supersport Let’s Play annual super stars awards function held at the Protea Hotel in Empangeni on Thursday.
Francois represented the KZN North U11 indoor cricket team at age 9 in 2011, represented the SA U11 team at the Junior World Indoor Cricket Series in Pretoria in 2012, KZN North U13 team in 2013, SA U13 side in 2014 and SA U15 side at the Junior World Indoor Cricket Series in Brisbane last year, where the SA team won silver and Fourie was selected for the All Stars team.
All the local monthly winners gathered at the function for a presentation from Supersport Let’s Play representative Vera Vencatasamy, awarding of prizes and a luncheon.
‘The aim of Supersport Let’s Play is to encourage young people to become active and participate in sport.
‘Currently 17% of youth today are overweight, which leads to diseases like diabetes and to inactivity.
‘The program provides an alternative to all the negative issues the children face today.
‘Thank you to the Zululand Observer for partnering up with us and doing all the profiles on our monthly winners,’ said Vencatasamy.
Grantleigh School’s Kelly Ervine ended second, with Mtunzini Primary School’s Emily Cobbold coming third.
