JET SKI racers from all corners of KZN fuelled up their ski’s and strangled their throttles whilst competing in the Cubana Birthday Bash Jet ski Race over the past weekend at Naval Island.
The event hosted by the Richards Bay Waterfront saw locals John de Ponte (Pro Ski Lites class) and Tyron Motzouris (Pro Open class) win their respective categories over an action packed and highly competitive two-day event.
Roy Quinta, who led the novice ski class after day one, managed to keep his nerve and cement the overall victory in his class, with Shonna Reeves taking the women’s class.
Sean Valsecchi who led the Sport class after day one, was given a good run for his money from Tyron Sterne who unfortunately ran out of fuel which gave Valsecchi the overall win for the weekend.
The action ended off with a one lap slalom timed race, with the best time taking home the bragging rights and title.
Locals De Ponte, Valsecchi and Motzouris all qualified for the final, with Motzouris proving why he is the best in the country by edging out the competition to take the top overall winning time.
