Grantleigh principal bids adieu

McMurtry has spent the past 10 years at the helm of the school

STAFF and students at Grantleigh Schools prepared a special assembly on Monday to bid farewell to their much loved and respected Executive Head, Shaun McMurtry.

McMurtry has spent the past 10 years at the helm of the school, during which time the school says significant and progressive educational improvements were made.

Representatives of all sections of the school came together for the send-off, celebrating his contributions to the school through a varied programme of individual student speeches, staff contributions as well as musical and choir tributes.

‘Each aspect of the assembly reflected the school’s appreciation of his 10 years of dedicated and innovative leadership which has so effectively shaped the culture of learning at the school,’ said public relations officer for the school, Caroline Stevens.

‘Mr McMurtry leaves the school at the end of the year to take up his position as the Regional Head of Curro KZN schools,’ she said.

The principal, who has over the years become known for his adaption of inspirational quotes into popular messages to motivate his learners, left with the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger: ‘I’ll be back!’
