Celebrating a century of wisdom
Even at 100 years, Sphiwe Elijah Mkhwanazi is as stronger as an ox

WHEN you first meet Pastor Sphiwe Elijah Mkhwanazi (100), his love for the church, people, education and accumulated wisdom is quite evident – he immediately fills the room with his positive energy.
The much-loved great grandfather, grandfather and father celebrated his 100th birthday in a special packed event at Tisand Technical High School in eSikhaleni on Saturday.
Surrounded by family, friends, politicians and church members, Mkhwanazi celebrated the milestone of wisdom, good health and life.
Born in 1916 in the rural heart of KwaMthethwa Reserve, Mkhwanazi grew up to be a famous and respected pastor.
Over the years he spread the gospel in countless churches around Johannesburg and other places, before coming back home to enjoy his golden years.
Hundreds who attended the celebration had only good things to say about him.
He was described as a man with a big heart who loves the gospel, church, God, his family and community.
‘We thank God for keeping him and for all the lessons we have received from him. He is a loving father and we are blessed to have him in our lives,’ said daughter-in-law, Phumzile Mkhwanazi.
At 100 years, Mkhwanazi is still young at heart and strong as an ox.
He still reads his Bible without glasses and has developed a love for soccer, which he follows closely on television.
