Matric learner stabbed to death

A quarrel arose between Mkhwanazi and an unknown man

A MTUBATUBA learner who left home to attend a ‘pens-down’ party was stabbed to death on Saturday evening.

According to reports Grade 10 Masibonisane High pupil Qhubekani ‘Sigodo’ Mkhwanazi (18) and his friend Lungisani Shembe (17) left home in Mfekayi Reserve on Saturday morning on their way to attend the matric party at St Lucia beach, but ended up drinking in town.

In the afternoon they boarded a taxi to go home, but the taxi returned to the drinking spot to pick up another passenger.

According to the police report, a quarrel arose between Mkhwanazi and an unknown man, who stabbed Mkwanazi in the neck.

‘The attacker then ran away with myself and another guy giving chase. He got into a taxi screaming we are attacking him and the taxi drivers turned on us with sticks and knobkieries and we ran back to where our friend was lying in a pool of blood,’ Shembe said.

‘There the taxi driver, who tried to stop the bleeding, told us Sigodo was dead.’

The Mtubatuba SAPS have opened a murder docket for investigation, and are appealing to the public with information about the incident to contact Detective ME Kubheka on 072 1905696.
