Clean sweep for bullish Impis

ERC bounced back and reached 88 runs in their first innings

IMPIS captain Vleis van der Westhuizen and team-mate Naas Strydom spearheaded the victory charge against Empangeni Rugby Club (ERC) in the Empangeni Social Darts League finals on Wednesday evening at ERC.

The pair nailed nine bulls and 12 triples between them, with Van der Westhuizen closing 114 (20, triple 20 and double 17) with three darts in his 501 match-up.

The evening’s action started off with a cricket match between the two sides before heading into nomination killer.
Van der Westhuizen hit a bullseye in the closest to bulls throw-out between the two captains to determine who starts.
He chose to bowl first.

Strydom stepped up and took five wickets with three darts (two bullseyes and one bull), leaving the scoreboard reading 0/5.

The batting team needs to throw above 40 with their three darts to score and make runs. Anything between 30 and 40 is safe, but below 40 is a wicket.

The bowling team needs to hit 10 bulls to bowl the batting team out. A bull is one wicket, with a bullseye worth two wickets.

Impis replied with 171 in their first innings for a comfortable 83 run lead.

But ERC’s JJ Hartzenberg hit 100 (60 score) and Andre Dewinnar senior nailed 85 (45 score), to aid ERC to 121 in their second innings, leaving

Impis with just 39 to win.

Impis score was 20/2 when Van der Westhuizen stepped up. He nailed trip 20 with his first dart to hand his side the win and an early 1-0 lead.
