Fast times clocked at Tonevale run/walk

For the super fit athletes, conditions seemed to not hinder their performance

ATHLETES lined up behind the white chalk line ahead of the start of the annual Tonevale 16km and 10km run/walk, hosted by uMhlathuze Athletics Club on Sunday.

Over 200 runners and walkers took on the challenging up and down off-road routes under the hot and humid Zululand sun.

For the super fit athletes, conditions seemed to not hinder their performance, as Thabani Shoyisa claimed the 10km title with an impressive time of 40.04, with Thulani Mdletshe taking the 16km title in 49.33.

KZN and uMhlathuze Athletics Club runner Nomcebo Mthethwa was the first lady home in the 10km run in 52.00 minutes, with Richards Bay’s Melanie van Rooyen taking the ladies 16km title in 1.01.30.
