INduna declares war on corruption

'I wish to warn you in advance that any member of this community who is found committing crime or involved in corruption will not be tolerated.'

NEWLY elected iNduna of Manquku Reserve, near Ndabayakhe has committed himself to putting God first in serving his community.

Addressing his first official community meeting, after his inauguration in August this year, iNduna Khombokwakhe Mkhwanazi said he was equal to the task.

He cited crime as the biggest threat in any society, adding that he would strive to root out any criminal elements aimed at hindering rural development in the area.

‘I wish to warn you in advance that any member of this community who is found committing crime or involved in corruption will not be tolerated. My role as your traditional leader is to ensure that there is transparency in everything that is being done here.

‘I’m here to execute my duties without fear, favour or prejudice. This I will do by ensuring that sites are allocated to people who deserve houses.

‘I have an open door policy to those who wish to start community upliftment projects, however, I will not be bribed for any development projects. If there is one thing I hate in life, it is corruption. South Africa is burning today because of acts of corruption,’ he said.

Mkhwanazi also heaped praise on traditional councillors, saying they were skilful in counselling and mediating in family disputes.

‘The beauty of working with traditional councillors is that they are an important component in unlocking rural development and they better understand our communities. They are here on a permanent basis, unlike municipal councillors who put politics first in everything they do. At times they don’t even consult us when they hold community meetings.

‘Part of the programmes we have put in place as the new leadership of this area, includes the revival of a Ministers Fraternal as a starting point. With the help of my councillors we aim to foster a culture of learning with the assistance of all the professionals residing in this area.

‘These programmes will assist in combating crime as well as alleviating poverty which confronts us all,’ added the iNduna.
