Retirement is a dirty word for Empangeni great gran
Although she is a resident in an old age home, she isn't quite yet at her retirement age.
FOR most parents, successfully raising their children is a feat in itself, let alone their grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
However for Avis Calitz (84) it has been part of life’s pleasures in being able to be part of five generations.
A resident of Empangeni’s Leisure Gardens, Avis is fondly known as ‘GG’ (great gran) with her great grandchildren.
When she’s not busy with her four children, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren, Avis can be found baking rusks and making her famous marmalade.
She jokingly admits that although she is a resident in an old age home, she isn’t quite yet at her retirement age.
‘I’m getting to retirement age, but I’m not there just yet.
‘I doubt I’ll be able to stop baking and making marmalade,’ she said.
Avis said she takes each day as it comes.
‘I ask God to protect me every morning and at the end of each day I thank Him. I’ve had a good life.’
