High spirits at Yamaha Enduro

The scene was set by the beautiful Heatonville surroundings

CLOSE to 100 riders gathered at the Heatonville Adventure Park on Saturday to grip and rip in the inaugural Ride High Yamaha Enduro.

With just over 90 entries, the event has been hailed as one of the most successful enduro events in the province, with riders from Durban, Umhlanga, Pinetown as well as Hluhluwe, Mtunzini and eShowe taking part.

The scene was set by the beautiful Heatonville surroundings.

‘We are absolutely amazed at the turnout,’ said Ride High Yamaha commander-in chief, Steven Strydom.

Many riders from Empangeni and Richards Bay were also in attendance.

‘The entries were far more than we expected and the day went off without a hitch. We had no complaints,’ said Strydom.

The track itself, set up by experienced riders and Damian Souchon, whose family owns the farm, consisted of three loops – a beginner, intermediate and pro loop.

Feedback from the riders was extremely positive – some saying it was the best they had ridden all year.

The pro loop which cut a path through a rocky ravine and a heavy uphill climb called ‘Widowmaker’ was not for sissies, while the intermediate loop was challenging, but not insurmountable – a perfect blend for riders of all skill levels.

‘It was an awesome day and while I was quietly expecting some big incident, I was elated that everything ran like clockwork,’ said Strydom.

‘A special thanks to all my guys from Ride High Yamaha for helping me out, and my marshals who marked the track and helped me get it right. Also thanks to IPSS Medical Rescue who attended the event at no charge to ensure everyone was kept safe.

‘And, of course, a huge thank you to Damian Souchon and his family for allowing us to use the venue.’

The day was wrapped up with a prize giving by means of lucky draw, everyone packing up just before the rain set in.

While some riders are still recovering from the bumps and bruises, Steven and his team are hard at work planning the next ride.

‘Watch this space!’ Strydom said.
