THIS refers to the article ‘Greenbelt swoop’ in the ZO of 28 October.
I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Brigadier Mgenge and the various sections of the SAPS, as well as CRG Security, for executing this successful crime-busting operation.
I have been liaising with Brigadier Mgenge and the deputy municipal manager: community services over the past weeks to focus on the greenbelt areas after receiving numerous complaints from the public.
An operation like this takes time to plan and execute.
The ‘surprise’ factor plays a very important role and the task team must be commended for a very successful operation.
Crime is rampant in our city and the public feel exposed and vulnerable.
We cannot allow our residents and business owners to be under siege by criminals.
Visible crime fighting initiatives go a long way to restore our trust in the SAPS.
There are many other crime-busting entities who work tirelessly to keep our suburbs and city safe and we would like to recognise the work done by especially the CPFs, MS Security Response and CPI (Richards Bay).
Their members patrol our streets at night when most of us are fast asleep.
Many crimes have been prevented by members of these groups.
We owe them a huge debt of gratitude.
The City of uMhlathuze belongs to the residents and not to the criminals – let us take our city back!
