A SIX year-old girl escaped unscathed after being awakened by a knife wielding robber in her bedroom, in a double-story Meerensee house on Thursday.
The quick-witted girl took the gap to flee from the armed man, under the guise of fetching cellphones for him.
Her parents woke up at around 3am with their daughter screaming that a man was in her bedroom with a knife.
‘I rushed to her room and saw him still crawling out the window,’ says her father.
‘I gave chase and saw him scaling the back wall, which exits into a Jaqueta street’s cul-de-sac.
‘I knew he would be cornered there, but as I ran into the cul-de-sac, he came flying past me.
‘I chased him all the way to Angler’s Rod – he had a cap on and a bag over the shoulder.’
The suspect outran him and escaped.
According to the brave little girl, she woke up and saw the suspect standing with the television in his hands.
When he saw she was awake, he showed her the knife and instructed her to keep quite.
He asked her where the phones were and pretending to fetch it, she took the gap to run and raise alarm.
‘It is unbelievable that a man can fit through such small burglar guards.
‘I once put my daughter through the window when we accidentally locked ourselves out and she could hardly fit.
‘I don’t know how he was able to do it – it look practiced.
‘Also, the open window cannot be seen from the road or anywhere else outside the property.
‘I suspect that he watched us for a long time and he knew our movements.’
The family chooses to remain anonymous for the sake of their daughter.
‘She went to school happily and does not look traumatised, but we are keeping a close eye, because the shock of the incident may surface later.’
