Fireworks send pets flying

SPCAs urge pet owners to look for missing animals at welfare premises

THE annual Diwali big bang fireworks in Richards Bay and Empangeni during the weekend once again sent countless traumatised pets bolting from their homes.

And while many are still running loose in the streets, both SPCAs on Monday urged community members with missing animals to see if their dogs or cats were brought to their kennels.

‘So far we have nine dogs and two cats waiting for their owners and we expect more to arrive throughout the week’ said SPCA Richards Bay inspector Shelly Prinsloo.

‘We need to get these poor animals home.

‘Owners have seven days to claim them before we have no choice but to put them up for adoption.

‘Please do not leave them behind.’

SPCA Empangeni inspector Roland Fivaz also reminded pet owners to ensure all their animals are tagged.

‘Today we managed to reunite a dog with his owner within minutes because he was tagged.

‘This simple detail makes a huge difference, especially with so many animals missing at the moment.’
