THERE has never been a list for this project,’ said Kantey and Templer’s Andrew Mckay to concerned Ward 11 residents attending an urgent housing meeting in eShowe.
The meeting, held in the Sunnydale hall, was called to clarify the recent circulation of low-cost housing allocation lists in the area.
‘We were alerted that there are people going around with low-cost housing allocation lists and taking names.
‘We’ve decided to call this meeting to nip this problem in the bud,’ Ward 11 councillor, Mduduzi Khanyile said at the beginning of the meeting.
According to Mckay, plans are in the pipeline to erect new low-cost houses in Ward 11. He said, ‘The town-planning layout states that there are 220 sites, but we only have water and sewerage (facilities) for the development of 95 sites,’ he said.
For now, both Khanyile and Mckay reiterated that the community will be notified when the new allocation lists are ready.
‘These lists, as well as the previous lists we have, will all be managed by the Municipality.
‘We plan to keep the process transparent,’ said Khanyile.
Mckay reminded the community of the requirements needed to acquire a low-cost house. ‘The main requirement is that the combined income of a household must be less than R3 500 per month.
‘The minimum age of the beneficiary must be 18 years-old, and he/she must be a South African citizen,’ he said.
‘The beneficiary must have never owned property before.
‘He/she must be a first-time owner,’ Mckay said.
Khanyile ended the meeting by assuring the vocal community that the Municipality and necessary officials will look into investigating these activities.
