Thanda rules the roost

The Amabhubesi dominate the stats in every regard

AFTER eight matches completed in the current National First Division campaign, Thanda Royal Zulu are clear leaders.

Their 2-1 home win over Milano United on Wednesday cemented their enviable position – five points above their nearest rivals Stellenbosch FC.

The Amabhubesi dominate the stats in every regard:
• Unbeaten, they have accumulated 20 out of a possible maximum 24 points
• They have scored the most goals (21), conceded the fewest (6) and boast the best goal difference (+15)
• With 11 goals to his credit, Mhlengi Cele is far and away the top NFD striker, while inspirational skipper Innocent Maela is also among the best sharpshooters with four goals to his tally.

There is a long way to go, with 22 matches still to be played.

The danger for Thanda is two-fold: complacency or over-confidence, but more especially that other clubs will adopt negative tactics in an attempt to neutralise their potency.

We are already seeing crowded penalty areas to deny shooting opportunities as well as some tough tackles directed at our top playmakers.

But head coach Roger Sikhakhane is a shrewd tactician and he will have his own plans to keep on the winning trail.
Fans will be looking for another win against a tough Mthatha Bucks outfit on Saturday.
