Local riders shine
The girls were selected to represent KZN for various disciplines
NINE Dayspring Equestrian Centre riders trotted to success while representing the KZN schools team at the SANESA nationals held at Misty Meadows, Pretoria recently.
They brought home two gold, one silver and one bronze medal, coupled with a handful of rosettes, with Sam Swanepoel making the SA Mounted Games team.
The girls were selected to represent KZN for various disciplines based on their results from the five qualifying competitions held during the year.
Swanepoel and her trusty steed Buddy competed in the Western Mounted Games, with Ava Eaglen (Pixie Dew), Serryn Stickley (King Vino), Kelly Ervine (Silver Diamond), Jessica Johnson (My Little Star, Harmony Whiskey and Figmint) and Olivia Johnson (Heidi and Harmony Whiskey) all competing in Three Phase Eventing and Core League comprising show jumping, dressage, working hunter, equitation, working riding, Prix Caprilli and performance riding.
Dakotah Howes (Gypsey), Madeleine Colton (Dancing Minstrel), Erin Ungerer (Hip Hop) and Amelie Eaglen (Lady Blue) all rode in the core league.
More than 500 riders from all provinces competed.
Howes earned a bronze medal in Prix Caprilli (level 1), Olivia Johnson a gold medal in level 3 show jumping and Kelly Ervine a gold medal in three phase eventing level 7, as well as a silver medal in working hunter level 7.
