Steep rise in bulk port shipments
BULK is back with a bang at the Port of Richards Bay

Statistics released by the Transnet National Ports Authority indicate a bullish 20.8% increase in bulk exports from 6.4 million metric tons (MT)in August to 8.1 million MT last month.
Total bulk shipments from the harbour, which primarily comprise coal, decreased by 29% from April (8.6 million MT) to July (6.2 million MT) before finally picking up the pace in August.
Bulk landed at the port also ballooned by 40.5% from 363686 MT in August to 611699 MT in September while total bulk handled rose by 22.2% for the same period from 6.8 million MT to 8.7 million MT.
Breakbulk exports, on the other hand, decreased by 20.5% from 275121 in August to 219232 in September.
Total cargo handled climbed month-to-month by 21% from 7 million MT to just under 9 million MT.
