EMPANGENI’S Paul Caves mixed martial arts squad made their presence felt at the recent Destiny 11 taekwondo tournament held in Cape Town.
The fighters achieved the following results:
• Hamzah Sabat (age group 10-11, green belt) – bronze medal for weapon forms.
• Marco Minichiello (14-15, green belt) – silver medal for weapons forms and bronze medal for forms and points sparring.
• Irfaan Sabat (14-15, green belt) – silver medal for forms and bronze medal for weapons forms.
• Paolo Minichiello (age 45 and above, green belt) – gold medal for forms and weapons forms, silver medal for points sparring and bronze medal for continuous fighting.
• Angelique Grundlingh (20, first dan black belt) – gold medal for creative weapons, silver medal for traditional creative kata and traditional weapons, bronze medal for point sparring and fourth for continuous sparring.
• Rudhra Poorun (7, green belt) – gold medal for light contact continuous sparring and creative kata, silver medal for creative weapons, bronze medal for traditional weapons and fourth for traditional creative kata and points sparring.
• Aaryan Poorun (11, blue belt) – gold medal for creative kata, creative weapons and light continuous sparring, bronze medal for full contact mixed martial arts light and finished fourth for points sparring, traditional creative kata and traditional weapons.
