Flanker Muller scoops top awards
Ackerman attends Richards Bay Rugby Club's awards dinner
OPEN-SIDE flanker Devon Muller picked up both the Rugby Player of the Year and Best U21 Player of the Year awards at the Richards Bay Rugby Club awards dinner on Saturday evening.
The talented youngster was not there to receive his awards as he is currently plying his trade in Brazil, playing for both the Brazilian U20 and senior teams.
The Bay Rugby Club had an unforgettable season, with the first team winning the overall KZNRU First Division League to gain promotion to the Premier League for the 2017 season.
‘Six years ago I stood here and congratulated the class of 2010 for getting the Richards Bay Rugby Club promoted to the KZNRU First Division,’ said club president Jan Joubert.
‘Tonight it gives me a great pleasure to congratulate the rugby class of 2016 for getting the club promoted to the Premier League, a dream that took decades to come true and has now left us all with great expectations and excitement for the future.
‘I believe as time goes by, our club will become a major force of club rugby in KZN.’
Joubert went on to thank head coach Trevor Montgomery for his success and their sponsors Midbay Motors and Seeff for getting on board for the 2016 season.
Lions Super Rugby and Golden Lions Currie Cup head coach Johan Ackermann was the guest speaker.
