Police clampdown on cable thieves

Copper crimes tackled

FORTY-SIX suspects have been arrested in a copper police cable theft clampdown in the province.

They were apprehended for possession of suspected stolen copper cables, theft of cables and other related cases.

Theft of copper cables and illegal connections of electricity in various areas remain a major concern.

Children are also being electrocuted by live wires left exposed after the theft of cables.

Acting SAPS Provincial Commissioner Major General Bhekinkosi Langa said, ‘We will also act against those who are buying, receiving and transporting such stolen cables.

‘Our appeal to community members is for them to report criminals who are stealing or selling copper cables.’
