POLICE in Mkuze, Northern Zululand, have arrested a 29 year-old man after he was found to have a rhino horn in his back pack.
A SAPS spokesperson said this morning that they were conducting search operations after receiving a tip off that a man was moving rhino horn. He was immediately arrested and taken into custody.
He will appear in the Ubombo Magistrate’s court this afternoon.
KZN Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa praised the Mkuze SAPS members and said that this will send a clear message to other poachers who are still at large.
‘More arrests are expected to be made to those engaging themselves in criminal activities – especially the Rhino poachers.
‘We will make sure that all the poachers are behind bars, ask the community to work with the police by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest and recovery of rhino horns,’ he said.
