Top cops bid farewell
‘I have spent most of my career in the SAPS in Zululand, but now it’s time to move on and advance in my work'
AFTER more than two decades serving the people of greater Zululand in the South African Police Service, Colonel Danie Calitz is bidding farewell.
Danie, or Brigadier Calitz as he will be known in his new post as Vredendal Cluster Commander in the Cape, on Tuesday travelled down to take up office.
But not before a big send-off at Umoya Lounge on Tuesday, organised by friends and colleagues.
‘It’s difficult to say goodbye,’ Calitz said.
‘I have spent most of my career in the SAPS in Zululand, but now it’s time to move on and advance in my work.’
Calitz was appointed as Empangeni Visible Policing Commander in 1997 before becoming acting and later permanent Richards Bay SAPS station commander in 1999 until 2008 when he was appointed Richards Bay VisPol Commander and in 2012, returned to Empangeni to again command the visible policing unit.
Wife Sharon is set to join Danie as soon as her transfer is approved.
The couple thanked everyone in Zululand for the years of friendship and support and promised to visit often.
