Super Jordan bags award

This young go-getter has raised the bar for himself

GRANTLEIGH Schools’ Jordan Stevens was the Zululand Supersport Let’s Play winner for September.

The 16-year-old was awarded this accolade after making waves in the swimming pool.

The energetic, hard working and goal-driven youngster has compiled an impressive rèsumè which includes the following achievements – Grantleigh Swimmer of the Year award (2016), Victor Ludorum at uThungulu schools gala (2016), Grantleigh Schools Victor Ludorum (2013, 2015 and 2016), U16 and U17 200m individual medley school record (2015/16), U17 50m butterfly school record (2016), represented KZN swim team at the SA Schools Championships (2015), KZN swim team (2016), SA Nationals Level 1 (2013), SA Nationals Level 2 (2015), SA Nationals Level 3 (2016), SA Short Course Championships (2016) and recently qualified for the SA Youth team for the 200m individual medley and 200m backstroke that will compete at the Youth Nationals next year.

But these achievements did not just fall into Jordan’s lap.

He trains six times a week under Ushaka Swimming Club coach Francois Boshoff.

‘I train once a day for 2 hours a session, completing 6 kilometers plus. I also gym twice a week and visit the Biokineticist once a week.’

Jordan also plays second team hockey at school and has represented the Northern Coastals team from 2012-2014.

‘I enjoy hockey, but owing to my heavy swim schedule I cannot commit one hundred percent.’

The diligent lad has found a balance between academics and sport, averaging 70-80 percent for his subjects.

When not torpedoing his way through a pool or burning the midnight oil, Jordan can be found hanging out with friends, listening to music or watching movies.

This young go-getter has raised the bar for himself and aims at achieving a sub one minute time for the 100m butterfly, sub two minute 15 seconds time for the 200m individual medley, sub two minutes for the 200m freestyle and maintain his academic status.

Once finished with school in 2017, Jordan aims at studying accounting in America or at Tuks, with the hopes of qualifying for the senior national team and go on to compete at the 2020 Olympic games.
