Schools tackle racism issues through drama

All KZN district schools participated, focusing on this year's theme

IN its attempt to motivate scholars to use their home languages at school, the Department of Education held a provincial schools language festival at Meet Mekaar Resort last weekend.

All KZN district schools participated, focusing on this year’s theme ‘Confronting racism’.

‘The aim of the festival is to promote the use of all languages in South African schools,’ said event organiser S’thoko Shange.

Shange said the competition begins at circuit level and the winners then compete at district level before moving on to provincial level.

‘The reason for using racism as this year’s theme is to make pupils aware of the impact of racism on their human rights and how it also impacts people’s lives,’ Shange said.
