Some of the patients were trapped in the vehicles and had to be freed with the Jaws of Life

FOUR people, including an eight-year-old child, died on Sunday in a head-on collision on the N2 near Stanger.
According to IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst, two people remain in a critical condition.
‘IPSS worked with KwaDukuza Fire and Rescue as well as KZN Emergency Medical Services to treat the injured,’ he said.
‘Paramedics worked tirelessly to resuscitate the child, but sadly were not successful.’
Some of the patients were trapped in the vehicles and had to be freed with the Jaws of Life.
The cause of the crash is still unknown.

Meanwhile in Richards Bay, the driver of a bakkie fled the scene of a crash after slamming into a light pole and landing in the bushes.
According to IPSS’ Richard Schouten, the accident occurred on the sharp right-hand bend at the transition from Anglers Rod into the John Ross Parkway.
Witnesses told the Eyethu Bay Watch the bakkie was travelling very fast before the accident occurred.
Schouten confirmed that only minor injuries were treated on scene.
