New mayor for uMkhanyakude

'Our main focus is water supply and providing sanitation to our communities'

UMKHANYAKUDE District has finally been able to elect its office bearers, after the month long delays caused by the Jozini Municipality council election drama.

The newly-elected district council, which was inaugurated on 22 September is headed by Mayor Cllr Solomon Mkhombo, assisted by Deputy Mayor Cllr Fikile Hlabisa and Cllr Solomon Msane is municipal speaker.

All three office bearers come from the ANC.

Addressing his supporters after his inauguration, Mkhombo made a commitment to ensure that uMkhanyakude District delivers best services to the people of Jozini, uMhlabuyalingana, Hlabisa Big 5 and Mtubatuba municipalities.

He further appealed to the citizens of uMkhanyakude to support the newly-elected office bearers, and work together with all councillors.

‘Our main focus is water supply and providing sanitation to our communities.

‘As district municipality, we therefore have an obligation to make sure our communities have clean drinking water,’ said Mkhombo.
