Local duathlon series ends on a high

THE 2016 Zululand Multi Sport off-road duathlon series was wrapped up last weekend when local athletes completed the third and final round of the popular event.

Entrants competed in a junior U10 duathlon, super sprint duathlon, sprint duathlon and canoe duathlon.

The junior U10 duathlon completed a 1km run, 2km mountain bike ride and 1km run, with the super sprint duathlon athletes completing a 2km run, 10km mountain bike ride and a 2km run.

The canoe duathlon was made up of a 3km run, 10km canoe and a 2km run, with the sprint duathlon competitors running 3km, a 15km mountain bike ride and finishing with a 2km run.

Junior U10 duathlon male- 1 Ryan Mendes 52:28, 2 Kian Topham 56:40 and 3 Luke Drummond 57:12.
Junior U10 duathlon female – 1 Shaylin Holt 1:00:54.
Super sprint duathlon male – 1 Jacques Engelbrecht 2:35:42.
Super sprint duathlon female – 1 Heilke Ackerman 2:50:03.
Sprint duathlon male – 1 Gideon Bruckner 2:58:55, 2 Piet Jordaan 3:31:59 and 3 Sibusiso Mthembu 3:39:25.
Sprint duathlon female – 1 Bronwyn McDonald 3:56:58, 2 Wilma Paxton 3:58:13 and 3 Melinda Gregory 3:59:29.
Sprint duathlon team – 1 Baaitjies (male) 3:14:15.
Canoe duathlon male- 1 Mike Stevens 3:03:30 and 2 Sigurd Rudner 3:48:48.
Canoe duathlon team – 1 Noujatoe 3:35:13.
