Five injured in R102 head-on collision
'The exact cause of the incident is being investigated by the SAPS.'
TWO people died and seven were injured in road accidents over the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon just after 2pm, a car left the road while crossing the Mfolozi River on the Monzi Bridge between Mtubatuba and St Lucia, taking a 25 metre plunge.
‘We arrived on scene to find that two patients had been pulled out of the river by firefighters, while two passengers in the vehicle were declared dead,’ said Richard Schouten of IPSS Rescue.
‘The exact cause of the incident is being investigated by the SAPS.’
Meanwhile, five people were injured in a head-on collision on the R102 just before the Felixton turn-off, also on Saturday afternoon.
The driver of a bakkie was trapped in his vehicle and both lanes were closed to traffic for over an hour as emergency services worked to free him.
All patients were transported to the Ngwelezana Hospital for treatment.
