IT’S all systems go, ahead of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) final examinations which start on Monday 28 October and culminate at the end on November.
The first exam the Grade 12s will sit for is English and with less than a week to go, plans are in place for a smooth examination process.
Earlier this month, pupils of Computer Applied Technology (CAT) sat for their practical exam.
Speaking to Aquadene Secondary School Principal Scelo Pakathi this week, he confirmed that preparations were in place and teachers had done everything possible to ensure all goes ahead without a hitch.
He said management, staff and teachers had done their best to prepare pupils and they are expecting good results from their efforts.
‘We have worked steadily throughout the year and will not relax until the end.
‘All preparations are in place and staff, Grade 12 pupils and their parents have undergone workshops in preparation of the finals.
‘We have engaged in extra weekend classes throughout the year and teachers will continue offering individualised support to pupils during this period,’ he said.
In a statement, KZN Department of Education MEC Peggy Nkonyeni said that their systems are ready and plans are in place to ensure a credible examination process.
‘We shall remain vigilant for the duration of the examination period to ensure that we maintain the integrity of the outcomes.
‘Our goal is to present an irregularity free examination process.’
The department has 150 061 full time candidates which represents an increase of 17 558 more pupils compared to 132 503 in 2012.
In addition, there are 24 733 candidates who have enrolled on a part time basis.
The latter group represents those who are given a second opportunity to either improve their previous performance in the NSC or who may still have an outstanding subject(s) to qualify for the NSC qualification.
