New councillor engages community

Problems aplenty placed in new councillor's lap

DESPITE the fact he is yet to assemble his ward committee, newly elected ward 1 councillor Langelihle ‘Langa’ Cebekhulu has held his first public meeting with residents from the Mzingazi Current area.

Accompanied by King Cetshwayo District Municipality Cllr Nellenie Naidoo, Cebekhulu – who grew up in Mzingazi – urged the hundreds of community stakeholders present to make known their needs and concerns.

They took him at his word and by the end of the two-hour session at the community hall on Friday afternoon, a long list of issues had been recorded with a view to further action.

Problems identified and which will be referred to the City’s IDP planning and budget included:
• Lack of proper bus and taxi facilities
• Lack of job opportunities
• Road and street lighting issues
• Need for land sites and title deeds
• Rampant crime and the need for a satellite police station
• No street signs
• Area being used as a waste dumping site
• Youth issues
• Water charges
• Sewage problems
• Need for a post office.
