THE district Mayor’s Intergovernmental Forum for the new term of office held its first meeting on Tuesday.
Mayors of the district agreed to work in cooperative governance to deal with matters of mutual interest and concern.
Promoting the spirit, purpose and strategy of co-operative governance, the White Paper on Local Government states that IGR Forums must aim to:
• Promote and facilitate cooperative decision making
• Coordinate and align priorities, budgets, policies and activities across interrelated functions and sectors;
• Ensure a smooth flow of information within government, and between government and communities, with a view to enhancing the implementation of policy and programmes.
The forums must also act in the prevention and resolution of conflicts and disputes.
