Amangwe spearheads powerful partnerships
'Amangwe Village identified Mfaniso High last year as an entity that needs interventions'
SMART, strategic networking can catapult struggling rural schools and its surrounding communities to new heights of hope, achievement and empowerment.
Amangwe Village manager Erna Steynberg says the power of partnership uplifted Mfaniso High School in the Sgaganeni area of KwaMthethwa to a beacon of hope in the impoverished community.
‘Amangwe Village identified Mfaniso High last year as an entity that needs interventions to add value to the lives of its learners and the community.
‘Services in rural areas are in some cases non-existent or people just do not know about them,’ says Steynberg.
‘Partnerships between the consumer, NPOs, government, service providers and stakeholders are the only solution to address the ongoing needs in communities.
‘There is a need to work smarter with our resources to get the maximum output.’

Mfaniso High School was built by the community in 1997 on land that made available by Induna Mthethwa and expanded a couple of years later – again by the community.
One of the biggest concerns was limited resources and the children did not have any access to education in mathematics.
Amangwe Village jumped into action and mobilised partners and stakeholders as a team, resulting in virtually a miracle within 18 months.
Organic gardener Bongani Mthethwa trained 19 learners at the school on organic food gardening, creating a fertile oases in the middle of nothing.
