Bulk exports see recovery
Bulk shipments from the harbour increased for the first time in four months

A SIGNIFICANT dip in bulk exports at the Port of Richards Bay, from 8.6 million tons in April to 6.2 million tons in July (-29%), is finally starting to recover.
Bulk shipments from the harbour, which are mainly coal cargoes from the Richards Bay Coal Terminal, increased for the first time in four months by 4.6% to 6.4 million tons from July to August.
In April, export figures jumped by 19.3% year-on-year before figures consistently dropped the following months, to 7.6 million tons in May and 6.9 million tons in June.
However, Richards Bay remained SA’s largest bulk exporter, sending off an average of 1.8 million tons more than runner-up bulk port Saldanha over the past three months.
