Burning truck delays early morning traffic

EARLY morning traffic was disrupted at the busy R66 / R34 intersection at Nkwalini at 7am on Wednesday morning when an ore carrier’s tyres started burning after descending the Melmoth Pass.

Fire brigades from Mthonjaneni and uMlalazi Municipalities attended the scene.

The cab was unhitched from the trailer and was therefor not threatened by the blaze.

The lane towards Empangeni on the R34 was blocked and traffic police assisted the movement of vehicles around the trailer until the road was cleared.
