Scholarship deadline looms

Foundation offers high school funding

PRIMARY school pupils have two weeks left to apply for an Allan Gray Orbis Foundation scholarship.

Submission of applications for Grade 6 pupils closes on 30 September.

Scholarships will cover full high school tuition and boarding fees, as well as allowances to subsidise travel, stationary, prescribed books, toiletries, school uniforms, civilian clothing, pocket money and extra-mural activities.

Recipients will also participate in the foundation’s development programme, which aims to develop entrepreneurial mindsets.

‘We believe that a solid education is the starting point for any entrepreneurial journey,’ said the foundation in a statement.

‘The foundation chooses to partner with schools that have a track record of excellence and successful pupils will have the opportunity to attend one of these placement schools.’

Application rules

Applicants must be in Grade 6 this year and be South African citizens.

They have had to achieve 70% or higher in mathematics and English and an average of 70% in both Grade 5 and Grade 6.

The foundation stated it also needs to see evidence of the applicants’ entrepreneurial potential by showing proof of intellectual imagination, achievements, courageous commitments, impacts on others and personal initiatives.

Application forms can be downloaded from the website www.allangrayorbis.org or by texting ‘SCHOLAR’ and one’s fax number to 36777 to receive an application via fax.
