Deadly weekend claims 12 in road crashes

TWO young men died in a car crash on the N2 between eSikhaweni and Empangeni in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The deceased were travelling in a Toyota Tazz from eSikhaweni to Mtubatuba when it is believed they experienced mechanical difficulty.

At around 3am, they were pushing the vehicle on the N2 near the uMhlathuze River bridge when a double cab bakkie, believed to be a City of uMhlathuze municipal vehicle, ploughed into them from behind.

The front seat passenger, a 22-year-old male, and a teenager (17) who was pushing the Tazz, were declared dead on the scene.
