UPDATE: Former housing official sentenced

She had illegally sold three plots of land in Brackenham

ZULULAND housing official Ntombiyenkosi Masuku was sentenced to eight years imprisonment in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court on Wednesdasy.

She was found guilty on four counts of corruption relating to illegal land sales in Brackenham.

The sentence was wholly suspended for five years on condition she was not again convicted of the same or similar offence, as she has two minor children, lost her job and has never been able to find employment since.

She had illegally sold three plots of land in Brackenham for R30 000 each and another for R29 500.

According to the charge sheets, the incidents took place in Richards Bay in 2009 when Masuku held the position of Assistant Director in the Department of Human Settlements and received payments for government property.
