Traditional healer slams albino killings
Traditional healers unite to fight the killings of people with albinism

‘TRADITIONAL healers don’t use people’s body parts to make muthi. That’s witchcraft.’
A KZN traditional healer has slammed this myth about sangomas at the launch of the ‘Stop Killing Albinos’ campaign in Nongoma recently.
With crimes against people with albinism still rife across the country, Dr Musa Zulu of Maz Herbal Products heads the campaign with the purpose of curbing this practice.
‘Traditional healers don’t harm, but rather save lives. We don’t want to be associated with such acts. We want to spread a strong message that we are fighting these barbaric actions because they taint our image,’ said Zulu.
According to Zulu, the aim of the awareness campaign is to educate communities to work together in fighting albino killings.
‘We invite all other healers to join us in the fight. Because they look different doesn’t mean their body parts have any powers,’ he said.
Attacks on albino people are on the rise, linked to a growing demand for body parts prized in ‘black magic’ to bring good fortune.
A woman was recently arrested for attempting to sell children with albinism to a sangoma in eManguzi.
This happened while police were searching for the abducted four-year-old boy from uMkhobose.
