Big sweat in Shaka Challenge

The popular annual event challenged athletes

LOCAL endurance junkies took on the Shaka Family Challenge at the Zululand Kayak Club on Saturday.

The popular annual event, presented by ZKC together with the Nashua Richards Bay Athletics Club and Zululand Cycling Club, challenged athletes with a 10km trail run, 10km mountain bike ride, 22km canoe race and 10km and 3km stand up board race.

10km trail run

Men: 1 Lindani Dube 39.38, 2 Andrew Habgood 39.39 and 3 Sam Brook 40.09.
Women: 1 Simone Scrase 43.28, 2 Jenny Dupisanie 43.29 and 3 Danielle Hefers 50.10.

10km mountain bike ride

First male – Matt Swemmer 27.23
First female – Candies Farland 31.49
First junior male – Reegan Ashington 37.29
First junior female – Kyle Trolling 45.20.

22km canoe race

KI single – 1 Hank McGregor, 2 Lee Furby and 3 Mike Stevens.
Double – 1 Clinton Cook and Thomas Lovemore, 2 Bruce Wenke and Linton Read and 3 Hugo Stewart and Stretch Struwig.

10km stand up board race

1 Thulani Nzama, 2 Brandon Read and 3 Shayne Chipps.

3km stand up board race

1 Joe Cloete, 2 Jason Bonthuys and 3 Danelle Hefers.
