KwaMbonambi cop shoots himself in the head after accident
A POLICE officer shot himself after he was involved in a car accident on the N2 freeway on Monday afternoon.
Officer Thokozani Mthethwa (29) of KwaMbonambi SAPS was travelling to Richards Bay when he apparently lost control of his vehicle.
According to the police, motorists helped pull him out of his smashed vehicle, but within minutes after he was rescued Mthethwa produced a gun, fired s shot into the air before shooting himself in the head. He died instantly.
‘We still don’t know what drove him to commit such an act, but the police have opened an inquest at the Richards Bay police station,’ said Empangeni Cluster spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose.
