PLANS are in the pipeline to turn the eShowe Little Flower Convent into a place of accommodation.
The convent was vacated earlier this year by the Benedictine Sisters of St Alban, who moved to the Diocese of Witbank in Mpumalanga to manage an old-age home.
Diocese of eShowe Catholic Bishop, Xolelo Thaddeus Kumalo, says besides offering accommodation, they’re hoping to use the building in a number of ways.
‘The kitchen machines are being used to bake bread, scones and the like.
‘We may offer laundry services too,’ he said. Kumalo says the recent developments also come with challenges which they are investigating. ‘Little Flower School is right next to the convent, so it’s important that we keep the children in mind.
‘If we take in tenants, we need to ensure there are firm rules regarding the noise levels and the consumption of alcohol on the premises.
‘We want to protect the school,’ he said. Kumalo says sisters from Thwasana have been transferred to eShowe and are currently living in the convent.
