GRADE RR and RRR pupils from Lourie’s Nest Pre-school recently set out to learn about ‘people who help’ by taking an excursion to the NSRI for a day.
The early morning trip included a water safety talk before heading off for a rescue boat walk through.
The children were allowed to try on the safety gear, listen to radio communications, sirens and whistles that go on during operations and then taken to the beach for a demonstration on how the rescue workers jump into the water to save lives.
A few weeks prior, the children were asked to do daily chores at home to raise a donation for the NSRI, and successfully raised a whopping R1 335.
