Deputy Minister mentors teens at Bay port

Teens from various schools interacted with female engineers, technicians and artisans

DEPUTY Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mduduzi Manana, on Tuesday welcomed 75 female pupils from selected schools in Richards Bay, Melmoth and eShowe to enjoy an informative tour of the port.

Manana and Transport Education and Training Authority CEO, Maphefo Anno-Frempong, led the team to promote the ‘Women with Scarce Skills’ programme.

The programme aims to encourage female pupils to take up careers in fields previously dominated by males in Maritime, Petrochemicals, Mining, Aviation and Engineering.

Teens from Dlangezwa Girls High, Phumosizini High and Umphezeni High School interacted with female engineers, technicians and artisans at the harbour, who demonstrated and shared their experiences in their chosen careers within the maritime industry.
