WINNERS of the Businesswomen’s Association (BWA) Regional Business Achievers Awards on Friday morning happily shared their secrets of success over breakfast at the Splendid Inn Bayshore Hotel in Richards Bay.
Emerging Entrepreneur winner Phumzile Lembede, who is the founder and Managing Director of Emvelo Environmental Consultants in Richards Bay, left a steady job only a year ago to start her successful female managed company.
‘I started the business after I identified a gap in environmental services. I am extremely concerned about the environmental impact of industrial activities,’ said Lembede.
‘I have since realised it is not only our industries we have to be worried about. About 40% of basic human activities are detrimental to the environment and we need to change that.
‘But I also saw employment opportunities in this field and felt it was the right time to make a change, challenge myself and making a difference in my community.
‘It was this gut feeling that has led to a business that is involved in a number of projects – and going strong.’
Winner in the professional category, Andile Mtshali, shared her inspiring journey of working as a housekeeper during weekends to fund her university studies, to today being the Director at law firm Kloppers Inc.
‘I ask myself every day how I got here. Coming to platforms like these is great since we can share our experiences and realise we are not alone in our circumstances.
