Mayor commits to fast-tracked service delivery

‘THIS term will be characterised by robust engagements aimed at improving service delivery in the city.
‘Wewant to define our term as a period of economic growth, a transformation revolution and fast-tracked basic service delivery to our electorate.
That was the commitment of uMhlathuze’s Mayor Mduduzi Mhlongo, who was re-elected unopposed at Friday’s inauguration.
Chants of ‘ANC, ANC, ANC’ rang out inside the council chambers as the majority party’s nominations – Mfundo Mthenjana as Speaker, Silondile Mkhize as Deputy Mayor and Manie Lourens as Chief Whip – were also unopposed.
Outside the Civic Centre meanwhile pepper spray and harsh words were exchanged by members of the EFF and security staff.
According to MPL and EFF Chairman in KZN, Vukani Ndlovu, he and other members of the EFF were ‘pushed, harassed and pepper sprayed’ by security officers while ‘the police, useless as they are’ stood by.
It was reported that security personnel stopped some of the group from entering based on dress code rules and a tussle ensued.
‘They have no grounds to stop us from entering the premises,’ Ndlovu said.
