Drought conditions still persist
The municipality has noted high levels of water loss due to wastage

LAST MONTH’S heavy rains have not filled dam and lake levels as expected, leaving the region’s main sources, the Goedertrouw Dam and Lake Mzingazi, filled to 18.52% and 43% percent respectively.
However, with Lake Cubhu filled to capacity city officials hope it will serve to support various reservoirs in case of an emergency.
The municipality has noted high levels of water loss due to wastage and irresponsible usage of purified water, with at least 10% of losses owing to leakages alone.
‘We encourage people to take care of taps and every leak in their homes,’ said city spokesperson Mdu Ncalane.
‘We also encourage the public to report leaks to our central system so that our water technicians can attend to them as quickly as possible. We will also do our duty as a city to repair any leaks.’
