Disappointing end to rugby season
Despite the disappointments, there is light at the end of the tunnel

MANCOSA Rhinos and Richards Bay 2 could not finish their season on a high note, going down to Hillcrest and Westville Old Boys respectively in the Junior Murray Cup and Keith Parkinson Cup finals at Crusaders Rugby Club in Durban on Saturday.
Despite the disappointments, the light at the end of the tunnel is that both local club’s will be playing in Premier League Rugby in 2017.
After a special meeting held in Durban, the KZNRU promoted Richards Bay Rugby Club after the team beat Vryheid in the First Division finals played earlier in the season.
On Saturday Richards Bay 2 went into half-time shed 13-3 down, but made a courageous fightback in the second half which saw them leading 18-13 with 5 minutes to go.
But Westville managed to expose a crack in the Bay’s defence which resulted in a last minute try to hand them a 20-18 win and the trophy for 2016.
Rhinos also had a close encounter, going down by one point to a well-drilled Hillcrest outfit (35-36).
The season is not done for most of the players, as Zululand will be playing two friendlies, one on the South Coast and one in the Midlands before the official end of the local 2016 rugby season.
