Speedsters bring home the medals

THREE uMhlathuze Athletics Club athletes obtained their KwaZulu-Natal colours after speeding their way through their respective races at the SA Cross- Country and SA Walking Championships.
Nomcebo ‘speedster’ Mthethwa was selected to represent KZN at the SA Cross-Country Championships in Nelspruit.
She placed fifth in her category (women 30-35 years) in the 4km cross-country event in a time of 16.04. She also won gold as the KZN team finished first at the championships.
Yvonne Irmscher and Lindokuhle Ntombela were both selected to represent KZN at the SA Walking Championships in Cape Town.
Yvonne claimed silver in the 50km event with an impressive time of 5.26.28, beating her previous time by 10 minutes.
Lindokuhle had many ‘firsts’ – first time on a plane, first time in Cape Town and first time competing in a 50km race. Unfortunately he did not claim first in his race, but bronze with a time of 4.53.08.
