Four suspects arrested at hijacking hot spot

In follow-up operations a third suspect was arrested and a vehicle, which was stolen on Wednesday, was recovered.

POLICE arrested four hijacking suspects on Thursday after a hijacking incident on the P230 between eShowe and Empangeni.

Numerous hijackings have been reported over the past few months along the P230 and the R34/R66 intersection at Nkwaleni, with state vehicles especially being targeted.

In a joint operation, led by the Empangeni Tactical Response Team and supported by SAPS Melmoth, Empangeni and eShowe, the team responded to the hijacking of a Toyota double cab belonging to the Department of Transport on the P230 near Maqwakazi at 10am.

The police stopped the vehicle at Mpumazi and a shoot-out ensued, with the suspects escaping on foot.
One suspect was caught.
