Waste cleanup campaign hits eNseleni

The purpose was to promote recycling and educate the community about the dangers of illegal dumping

THE City of uMhlathuze Youth Jobs in Waste team recently spread the message about waste management in eNseleni.

The purpose was to promote recycling and educate the community about the dangers of illegal dumping.

The team also conducted a door-to-door education clean-up campaign and made several presentations to school pupils about the campaign.

‘We focused on clearing illegal dumps in ward 6 and educated the community on how to use municipal waste skips to ensure a safe and clean township,’ said superviser Mzamo Sithole.

‘Waste should be contained in a plastic bag to prevent wind from blowing it out of the skips. Children should be supervised when disposing waste to prevent litter around the skip which not only looks untidy, but is also a health hazard and allows vermin to flourish.’

The team will continue to educate young people about waste reduction and promote recycling in other townships.
